CHIGWELL GOLF CLUB TEAMS ACHIEVE GREAT RESULTS FROM RECENT MATCHES

Leslie F Wood
“The Leslie Wood Team produced a tremendous performance to defeat the current holders, The Warren G C, 10 points to 5 at Chigwell on Sunday 13th May.
The actual result belies the closeness of the matches and the strength of the opposition. The morning foursomes saw Chigwell lose the opening two games but stirring performances by the last 3 pairs gave us a morning lead of 3 points to 2.
The Chigwell team were dealt a blow at lunchtime by the enforced withdrawal through illness of one of our stalwarts, Richard Vass. This somewhat strangely led to the undoubted highlight of the day. Young Harry Butler, at the tender age of 14, stepped into the breach and, on his Leslie Wood debut, managed a memorable 2&1 victory against The Warren’s lowest handicapped player! It is almost certain that Harry is the youngest player ever to represent Chigwell G C in a senior county competition.
Harry’s result, however, should not overshadow a stunning singles performance from the whole team which led Chigwell to claim 7 out of a possible 10 points in the afternoon!
Tribute should also be paid both to the caddies whose input and assistance cannot be overstated and to those members who gave of their time to support the players.
Well done everybody!”

Ladies Mail on Sunday
5th Round Match vs Ballards Gore (Home) on Wednesday 9th May
RESULT: CHIGWELL WON BY 4 TO 1
Another great result on a very, very wet Chigwell course and home advantage definitely helped today. Despite having to give a lot of shots (Daisy 16, Jane and Louella both 13), they all did brilliantly to win their matches so convincingly. Fiona and Sally were up against opposition who were playing very steadily and were both holding their own, but I suspect were very happy (given the state of the course and the weather) to be called in after the 13th when we had 3 wins under our belt! Thanks very much to our caddies, Pam, Debbie, Louise, Geraldine and Jacqui. We won’t know about the next round for about another 3 weeks – but Round 6 here we come.
